And following is brief introduction of the holiday.

International Workers' Day, also known as May Day, is observed on May 1st each year. This global celebration honors the social and economic achievements of workers and commemorates the labor movement's struggle for fair working conditions.

The origins of May Day can be traced back to the labor unrest in the late 19th century. In 1886, American workers went on a massive strike demanding an eight - hour workday. The Haymarket Affair in Chicago, which took place during this movement, became a significant symbol of the fight for workers' rights. In 1889, the Second International, a conference of socialist and labor parties, declared May 1st as International Workers' Day to support the American labor movement and to advocate for workers' rights worldwide.

Today, May Day is celebrated in various ways around the world. In many countries, it is a public holiday, with parades, rallies, and cultural events held to recognize the contributions of workers. Workers often gather to voice their demands for better pay, improved working conditions, and social justice. Some countries also use this day to award outstanding workers, highlighting their dedication and achievements. May Day not only reminds us of the hard - won rights of workers but also serves as a call to continue the fight for a more equitable and just society for all.
